Stumps don’t lie - and this one is no exception. This stump on the shore of Pogy Pond in Baxter State Park is one of many burned cedar stumps found in the Traveler-Pogy Notch area of the park. They are evidence of the great forest fire of 1903 that swept through the area. After 104 years, this section of the park is still recovering. This summer and fall have been very dry and the Maine State Forest Service warns that forest fire danger throughout the entire state is high. Photo by Rep. Jon McKane on 9/13/07.
